El inicio de año se caracterizó por un mal desempeño en el sector comercial, marcado por escasas transacciones y una baja afluencia de público en los locales.
Según la Confederación Argentina de la Mediana Empresa (CAME), en enero de 2024 las ventas minoristas de las pequeñas y medianas empresas experimentaron una significativa disminución del 28,5% en comparación con el mismo período del año anterior, según la medición a precios constantes. A nivel intermensual desestacionalizado, se registró un descenso del 6,4%.

A pesar de este escenario desafiante, el sector textil emergió como la excepción, logrando un aumento del 0,9% en comparación con enero del año anterior (en aquella ocasión había registrado una baja del 14,4%) siempre considerando los precios constantes.
Este incremento se atribuye a la combinación de ofertas atractivas y a las compras realizadas en gran cantidad por turistas internacionales que recorrieron las ciudades argentinas.
